I was dreaming while I drove the long straight road ahead. Could taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide, This fever for you is just burning me up inside. I drove all night to get to you. Is that alright? I drove all night, crept in your room, Woke you from your sleep to make love to you. Is that alright? I drove all night. What in this world keeps us from tearing apart? No matter where I go I hear the beating of your heart. I think about you when the night is cold and dark. No one can move me the way that you do, Nothing erases this feeling between me and you. I drove all night to get to you. Is that alright...? Could taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide, This fever for you is just burning me up inside. I drove all night to get to you. Is that alright...? Could taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide, This fever for you is just burning me up inside. A Dutch collector was able to make me some unique video clips. Apparently the Netherlands appealed to many of the modern American jazz musicians in these days which resulted in a number seldom heard performances. SonnyRollins (born September 7, 1930 in New York City) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Sonny Rollins has had a long, productive career in jazz, beginning his career at the age of 11 and playing with piano legend Thelonious Monk before reaching the age of 20. Rollins is still touring and recording today, having outlived several of his jazz contemporaries such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Art Blakey, all performers with whom he has recorded. In 1957 he pioneered the use of just bass and drums as accompaniment for his saxophone solos, a texture that came to be known as "strolling"; Throughout his career, Rollins used the technique, even backing bass and drum solos with sax licks (and bass for the drummer or drums for the bass player). 01. Hird - Getting Closer Part I Part II 2006 Various Artists - Nordic Lounge Vol 3 Cat nr: dnmcd007 Format: CD Release date: 2005-04-07 The third volume in the critically acclaimed Nordic Lounge series follows the same successful concept as the first two releases. A careful selection of the finest contemporary music from the Scandinavian music scene. This time though slightly more up tempo and delivered in a smooth mix by the Dealers of Nordic Music; Jakob Lusensky and Andreas Agdestein. So what is Scandinavian contemporary music anyway, and is there a specific Scandinavian sound? Jakob Lusensky one of the dealers explains: I think Scandinavian contemporary electronic music in many ways resembles the modern Scandinavian design. The music, as well as Scandinavian design, is based on purity and simplicity and this is recognized in the quality of the handcraft. The compilation starts off with Swedish artist Hirdดs younger brother Cloud and the track Winternights. This track works almost as a lead theme for the rest of the compilation - giving the listener a feeling of what is to come. With an organic sounds and an winter atmosphere it features the very talented vocalist Yoanna already known from the previous volumes of Nordic Lounge. The act Plej continues along the path that Cloud embarked on. With Ernesto providing the vocals, this piece truly underlines the essence of Nordic Lounge. The compilation accelerates with a track from Dalminjo moving into a more jazzy, uptempo section together with the Danish group Context and the Finnish jazz outfit Five Corners Quintet. Here with a remix from Sumo-On-Wheels. In the same spirit Hird continues in collaboration with vocalist Yukimi Nagano resulting in the marvellous track “I love you my hope” that already have been hyped and rotated on radio stations around the globe. 1: Winternights - Cloud Feat. Diary of 16 - 20 May 2007
1:44 PM Even at her funeral, Isabella Blow managed to have the most spectacular hat in the room. Some of fashion's biggest names gathered to say their farewells to the style guru known for her love of eccentric headgear and red lipstick Others, such as the model Sophie Dahl and designer Alexander McQueen, joined him among the 350 mourners at Gloucester Cathedral. One of the pall bearers was Otis Ferry, the son of her friend Bryan Ferry who arranged her first job in fashion at Vogue magazine in New York. Blow was said to regularly attend the cathedral "always in different hats" with her husband Detmar, whom she married there in 1989. Detmar attended today's service in the same white suit that he wore at their marriage. The service opened with the hymn O Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem, composed by John Blow, a descendant of Blow's husband. Isabella Blow, ‘Fashion's Nutty Aunt,’ Is Dead !!!!!! Isabella Blow — editor, character, inspiration — died in London today, and the news came as a sad shock to the fashion community, particularly those who adore that world's more eccentric side. Blow, 48, was fashion's nutty aunt: always dressed perfectly in an outrageous hat, couture duds, painfully high stiletto heels; her lips were always fuchsia, scarlet, aubergine, and richly so. She worked formally in a variety of industry jobs, starting as Anna Wintour's assistant at Vogue and later serving as style editor of London's Sunday Times and fashion director of Tatler. She served less formally as muse to and champion of some of today's greatest talents: Alexander McQueen drew inspiration from Blow's extravagant, jolie laide persona, and Philip Treacy, London's top milliner, long designed with Blow in mind. Her personal life was famously rocky: She was painfully disinherited from her father's estate and was open about the difficulties she and her similarly stylish husband, Detmar, faced when trying to conceive. But, above all else, she loved fashion. She'll be missed for that, for her flair, her wit, her generosity of spirit, her style. —Harriet Mays Powell and Amy Larocca Toward the end of her life, Blow had become seriously depressed and reportedly was anguished over her inability to "find a home in a world she influenced", wrote Cathy Horyn of The New York Times on 10 May 2007. As one of Isabella's friends, Daphne Guinness, told Horyn, "She was upset that [Alexander] McQueen didn't take her along when he sold his brand to Gucci. Once the deals started happening, she fell by the wayside. Everybody else got contracts, and she got a free dress". According to a 2002 interview with Tamsin Blanchard, it was Blow who brokered the deal in which Gucci purchased McQueen's label. Other pressures on her fragile psyche were money problems and infertility; according to an article in the Daily Mail, Blow and her husband had unsuccessfully tried in vitro fertilization eight times. "We were like a pair of exotic fruits that could not breed when placed together", she said. Following a row with her mother-in-law over which member of the family would inherit Hilles, Isabella and Detmar Blow separated — Detmar went on to have an affair with the bisexual novelist Stephanie Theobald, while Isabella entered into a liaison with a gondolier she met in Venice — but they reconciled 18 months later.[5] In 2006, again according to The New York Times, Blow attempted suicide twice, once by jumping from the Hammersmith Flyover, which resulted in her breaking both legs. After this, the paper noted, the fashion icon "became more and more remote, convinced that she would end up as a bag lady." According to an article published in the Evening Standard after her death, Detmar Blow confirmed that his wife suffered from depression and had once declared, "I can't beat it". She also learned that she was suffering from advanced ovarian cancer around this time [6] On 6 May 2007, during a weekend house party at her husband's ancestral home, Hilles, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, where the guests included Treacy and his life partner, Stefan Bartlett, Blow announced that she was going shopping. Instead, she later was discovered in a state of distress by one of her younger sisters and was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where Blow told the doctor that she had drunk the weedkiller Paraquat. She died at the hospital two days later. The London Times reported on 9 May 2007 the details of Blow's death and noted that her husband's father had also used Paraquat to commit suicide. [7] She was buried from Gloucester Cathedral on 15 May 2007.[8] Her coffin, made of willow, was surmounted by one of her Philip Treacy hats instead of a floral tribute, and her pallbearers included Otis Ferry, a son of the rock star Bryan Ferry. The actor Rupert Everett delivered one of the eulogies. [9] Sad ......... Eminem - I'm Shady (3:32) 19. Eminem - Bad Meets Evil (4:13) 20. Eminem - Still Don't Give A Fuck (4:12) Part 1 Part 2 On The Slim Shady LP, Eminem wants it all. He's conflicted, you see; the world has treated him badly, and he wants to respond in kind. But he isn't a straight-up gangsta--this is, after all, the first release on Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, his post-Death Row-era venture--and Eminem (born Marshall Mathers) doesn't really want anyone to follow in his footsteps, which leads to some interesting contradictions on this album. In the first single, "My Name Is," he's self-deprecating, rapping about his poor upbringing and his hairy palms. But on the very next song, "Guilty Conscience," he plays the devil to Dr. Dre's angel--that is, until Eminem brings up an incident from Dre's devilish past, rapping, "You gonna take advice from someone who slapped Dee Barnes?" Later, on "'97 Bonnie & Clyde," he turns Will Smith's "Just the Two of Us" on its ear, making it a tale of murder; but on "My Fault," he actually feels bad--though whether it's for the girl he overdosed or for himself is tough to figure out. With his nasal Midwestern tone, Mathers has a clean, clear flow, and the production--by Dr. Dre, Marky, and Jeff Bass--is crisp but consistently fun. With his outlook, it's tough to take Eminem too seriously, but he's made an album you don't have to take seriously to enjoy. --Randy Silver The Marshall Mathers Lp (2000) Audio CD (May 23, 2000) Original Release Date: May 23, 2000 Number of Discs: 1 Format: Explicit Lyrics Label: Interscope Records 1. On Eminem's sophomore album, he can't decide who he wants to be: the deranged pseudo-psycho of the Slim Shady LP, or a nice guy who just likes to rhyme about slicing and dicing his girlfriend ("Kim"). Of course, according to Eminem, he's just kidding. He refuses to take responsibility for the misogynistic, homophobic bile he spews, whining that he's the victim of people who don't get his unique sense of humor. It's good old America's fault if the kids aren't alright (Eminem blames bad parenting), and he's just capitalizing on Uncle Sam's dark side. On the Marshall Mathers LP, he's ambivalent about his fame, angry at his life, pissed off that people take him seriously, and fightin' mad at boy bands--and a lot of other white people. But the blue-eyed brat is acutely aware of his status as rap's resident alien: he has the most offensive mouth running, but never uses the "N" word. He gives lyrical love to tragic (black) legends like Tupac and Biggie while dissing white rappers hard. Even sitting duck Puffy gets the kid-gloves treatment. Of course, Eminem is an interesting, witty rapper, and there's some nice production on this CD, courtesy of Dr. Dre and others. But the hatred in Eminem's rhymes makes the album rotten at its core. And his protests that Slim Shady is just a persona become less convincing with each arrest. Then again, Eminem's got it hard: he's rich, famous, white, and male. --Lizz Mendez Berry The Eminem Show (2002) Audio CD (May 26, 2002) Original Release Date: 2002 Number of Discs: 1 Format: Explicit Lyrics Label: Interscope Records 1. Eminem - Curtains Close (1:01) Part 1 Part 2 Any lingering doubts as to the depth of Eminem's skills or his potential for raw yet compelling honesty are dispelled on The Eminem Show's first track. Armed with a quicksilver flow and a thundering rhythm track (the record was exec produced by longtime mentor and partner Dr. Dre), "White America" finds Eminem ferociously mauling the hand that feeds him, lambasting his critics, the industry, and the racism that, in many ways, helped make Marshall Mathers more than just another rapper. "Let's do the math," Em sneers, "If I was black I would have sold half/ I could be one of your kids/ Little Eric looks just like this." After the bombast of The Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem's well-noted use of sexual epithets, this kind of material is made more controversial because it actually rings true. From a brutal retort to his long-estranged and equally troubled mother ("Cleaning Out My Closets") to a surprisingly tender ode to his child ("Hailie's Song"), Eminem examines his life, loves, arrests, addictions, failures, and successes with surprising insight, making this a funk-drenched hip-hop confessional well worth the hype. 8 Mile - Soundtrack - ( Limited Edition 2CD 2002) Audio CD (October 29, 2002) Original Release Date: 2000 Number of Discs: 1 Format: Explicit Lyrics Label: Interscope Records CD1 1. What is clear, however, is that (dare we say it) the Shady One might be growing up. On "Lose Yourself" Em abandons his callous, hardcore posturing to write thoughtful hood-centric coming-of-age lyrics that would make Melle Mel proud. On "Battle," Gang Starr's Guru tears through a sick beat from rap's most prolific producer, DJ Premier. Sadly, Nas wastes more valuable studio time dissing Jay-Z (ho hum) on "You Wanna Be Me." Interestingly, once you get past the living-legend love-in and peep the skills from Em's lesser-known Shady Records roster of underground wordsmiths, such as 50 Cent ("Wanksta") or Obie Trice ("Adrenaline Rush"), you might urge Em to consider giving up his thespian pursuits to become a full-time record executive. Not even the baffling inclusion of Macy Gray's humdrum "Time of Your Life" can sink this project. --Dalton Higgins Encore (2004) Audio CD (November 19, 2004) Number of Discs: 2 Format: Explicit Lyrics Label: Aftermath 1. Eminem - Encore / Curtains Down(Ft. Dr. (5:4) Part 1 Part 2 Eminem's fourth album offers few surprises, but still enough pleasures to carry the day. As evinced by Em's pre-election, pro-voting "Mosh," this is not exactly the same Eminem who seemingly crapped on anything and everything. Encore finds a surprisingly mature Eminem waxing reflective about his battle with Benzino ("Like Toy Soldiers") rather than unloading both barrels. However, it's not all elder statesmanship: "Puke" goes after his ex-wife Kim with incredible scorn, and "Big Weenie" showcases the familiar juvenile humor that made him famous. If Encore has a clear weakness, it's the bland production--the same plodding sound that he and Dr. Dre cooked up on the previous three albums. The exotic flavor of "Ass Like That" catches the ear, but many others run off the same monotonous minor-key melodies and tempos. Of course, people buy Eminem albums to hear him spit first and foremost, and in that regard few fans will be disappointed by Encore; it'd just be nice to see him switch up his sound at some point. "But what happened is that the material was so good and the tracks were getting produced like a regular album," said Eminem. "Instead of putting it out there rough and unfinished, I thought we should add some other new tracks, make it a real album, and put it in the record stores to give these new artists a real boost." The album was executive produced by Eminem, who also produced the majority of the songs. A handful of selections were produced by The Alchemist, who also compiled the album in true mixtape fashion. The Alchemist is best known for his work with Cypress Hill, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Mobb Deep, and Jadakiss. Each of the tracks makes its official CD debut on Eminem Presents: The Re-Up, though Stat Quo's "Billion Bucks," and Obie Trice's "Cry Now" (Remix), produced by LT Moe, was recently released on mixtapes and to radio. The first single and video will be "You Don't Know" from Eminem, 50 Cent, Ca$his and Lloyd Banks. With Eminem and Ca$his from the Shady camp and 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks from G-Unit, the rap illustrates the unity of the two organizations. The Re-Up also gave acclaimed hip-hop producer The Alchemist a chance to work with Shady's new regime. After joining forces on-stage as Eminem's DJ on last year's Anger Management 3 tour, Alchemist and the Shady camp began collaborating in the studio. This new album features the results of this anticipated collaboration with new tracks produced by The Alchemist featuring Stat Quo, Ca$his, Bobby Creekwater and Obie Trice. Among the album's other recordings are "No Apologies" from Eminem; "Talkin' All That" from Ca$his; "City Of Gold" from Bobby Creekwater; "Murder" from Bizarre and Kuniva (both of D12); and The "Smack That (Remix)" with Akon. Stat Quo, hailing from Atlanta, was signed to a joint deal between Shady Records and Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment after Eminem and Dre heard him on the Underground Atlanta mixtape series. Creekwater, also from Atlanta, was inked after Eminem heard his work on demos and in the studio with The Alchemist. Ca$his, a Chicago native transplanted in his youth to Orange Co., California, was a member of West Coast underground favorites The Renegadez. Rampant misinformation about Eminem Presents: The Re-Up included many false internet tracklistings and that the mixtape would be a tribute to D12's Proof, the recently slain rapper and close friend of Eminem. "The D12 album and those unreleased songs with Proof are coming," said Eminem. "But The Re-Up is about these new artists and these new songs. It isn't fair to them or to the memory of Proof to mix them up." Sunday, May 13, 2007
Rabbit Love : Angelique Kidjo
9:44 PM Angélique Kidjo is a four-time Grammy nominated Beninese singer songwriter, noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos. Kidjo was born in Ouidah, Benin. By the time she was six Kidjo was performing with her mother's theatre troupe, giving her an early appreciation for music and dance. Continuing political conflicts in Benin lead Kidjo to relocate to Paris around 1982. She started out as a backup singer in local bands, before establishing her own band, and by the end of the 1980s she had become one of the most popular live performers in Paris. She is married to musician and producer Jean Hebrail with whom she has daughter Naïma (born 1993), and is currently based in New York. Kidjo is fluent in Fon, French, Yoruba, and English and sings in all four languages and also her own personal language which includes words that serve as songtitles such as Batonga. Malaika is a song sung in Swahili language. She often utilizes Benin's traditional Zilin vocal technique and jazz vocalese. Her musical influences include the Afropop, Caribbean zouk, Congolese rumba, Jazz, Gospel, and Latin styles; as well as her childhood idols Bella Bellow, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Miriam Makeba and Carlos Santana. She has made her own renditions of George Gershwin's Summertime, Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child, and The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter. and has collaborated with the likes of Dave Matthews and the Dave Matthews Band, Kelly Price, Branford Marsalis, Robbie Nevil, Carlos Santana, and Cassandra Wilson. Kidjo's hits include the songs "Agolo", "Ayé", and "Batonga". In The Simpsons episode Simpson Safari, Homer's guide sings lines from Kidjo's "Wé-Wé", from her album Logozo. In February of 2003, she performed a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" at the famed Radio City Music Hall in New York City alongside Chicago blues guitar legend Buddy Guy and New York rock guitarist Vernon Reid (of Living Colour) in what would become part of Martin Scorsese's "Lightning In A Bottle: One Night In The History Of The Blues", a documentary about blues music that features live concert footage of other rock, rap and blue greats. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Angelique Kidjo released an album titled Djin Djin on May 1st, 2007. Many guests appear on the album including Josh Groban, Carlos Santana, Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Peter Gabriel, Amadou and Mariam, Ziggy Marley, and Branford Marsalis. The title, Djin Djin, refers to the sound of a bell in Africa that greets each new day. The album is produced by Tony Visconti, who is known for producing David Bowie, Morrissey, and T. Tombo download MP3 @ 192 Kbps | 46:49 | 67,28MB Genre: World, West African, Afro Beat Angélique Kidjo's high-powered soprano and stage charisma have carried the diminutive singer far from her native country of Bénin. She recorded her first solo album in Paris, her second in Miami, and her new one, Ayé in London with Soul II Soul's Will Mowat as one producer and in Minneapolis with Prince sidekick David Z. as the other. Kidjo sings in Fon and Yoruba (West African languages), but both producers as well as her cowriter Jean Hébrail reinforce her African rhythms with programmed drums and synths. The result is neither African music nor Anglo-American pop but a strange hybrid that contains some of the most exciting dance music anywhere today. African purists will be annoyed that Mowat and Z. have pushed Kidjo even further from her roots than before. American dance club denizens will be bothered that they can't understand what she's singing (the translations in the CD booklet for Ayé suggest they aren't missing much--mere platitudes about optimism, tolerance, the homeless, love and God). Americans may also be thrown by the skipping polyrhythms of Kidjo's music, so different from the fat, on-the-one funk they're used to. Yet it's Kidjo's ability to sing strong and hard (with a little sizzle in her timbre as the notes trail off) even as she skips effortlessly through the polyrhythms that makes her sound so fresh. Her triumph is not the breakthrough of real Sub-Saharan music but of a new international pop that marries West African beats to the technology of the Western dance record. 1991 Angelique Kidjo - Logozo 01. batonga 02. tché-tché 03. logozo 04. wé-wé 05. malaika 06. ewa ka djo 07. kaléta 08. elédjiré 09. sénié 10. ekoléya download Mp3 @1 192 Kbps | 40:35 | 57,94 MB Genre: World, West African, Afro Beat Friday, May 11, 2007

download MP3 @ 192Kbps | 48:14 | 68,22MB | Front+Back Cover A young and lovely Italian girl with a voice as light as air. That’s one way to describe Chiara Civello. But that would hardly be adequate. She’s a singer of the finest order, with a whispery alto voice that soothes on every word. Reminiscent to a small degree of such divas as Flora Purim and Astrud Gilberto, yet distinctive. Comparisons to Corinne Drewery of Swing Out Sister wouldn’t be far off the mark. Born in Rome in 1975, the vocalist debuts on Last Quarter Moon , an album that displays many facets of her musical persona. Civello is right at home singing jazz, Latin or Brazilian music—all of which are represented. The album includes ten original songs (three co-written), a cover of Suzanne Vega’s Nordic Lounge vol 3 Cat nr: dnmcd007 Format: CD Release date: 2005-04-07 listen 1: Winternights - Cloud Feat. From the jazzy mode of the compilation it builds up to a climax with no less than two danceable tunes from wonderboy Andreas Saag a.k.a. Swell Session and Stateless. First with a remix of well known Japanese producer Susumo Yokota and ending the compilation together with Ernesto once again for an unforgettable remix of Albanek. On volume 2 in the critically acclaimed Nordic Lounge series we went even deeper into the Scandinavian flora of musical creativity. This time with exclusive and previously unreleased tracks by artists such as Hird, Gonky Business and Ernestos as well as classic tunes from Koop, Nuspirit Helsinki and Bugge Wesseltoft. Volume 2 also gave you the unique possibility to make the acquaintance of the act Cloud. The creative Mecca in Scandinavia at the time was Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast, this is reflected on the choice of music for this compilation. Stateless, Hird and Plej are some of the artists who put “Gonkyburg” on the map. Acompanied here by already mentioned Cloud with his debut the playfull and hypnotic track "Thinking of you". Nordic Lounge volume 1 opened up with Hird and the since classic track Keep you Hird. This time he wraped it all up with the final track on the album, Getting Closer. A soulfull experience expanding the sound of Nordic Lounge and ultimately ending up on his debut album. 2001 Various Artists - Nordic Lounge Vol 1 Audio CD (July 1, 2003) Original Release Date: July 1, 2003 Number of Discs: 1 Label: Varese Sarabande 1. On the title track, her multi-octave range can be seen as an indication of the "cool school" but when she starts swinging she’s anything but cool! Her scats and melodies breathe beautifully and her melodic lines have a lighter, airier quality that finds her swinging but in a softer, more relaxed manner. Billie Holiday’s anthem "Lover Man" has been claimed as part of the cool jazz movement and Gambarini certainly offers an outstanding variation of this sublime ballad. Even Gershwin would have enjoyed her passionate reworking of "Porgy, I’s Your Woman Now/I Loves You Porgy." Gambarini is equally successful at presenting this Great American Songbook standard as a medley of sentimentality with a range of penetrating cries and whispers implicated in her voice. From ballads to bop, Roberta proves she’s no stranger to the art of swing or the bop idiom. Once into "On The Sunny Side of The Street" she teases with playful scats and daring vocalese that would renew anyone’s vocal jazz ambitions. "Lover Come Back To Me" adopts a different tonal palette as she launches into a swinging set complete with searing scats that clearly show her respect for Ella Fitzgerald. Joined by the inimitable James Moody on tenor sax and vocals on "Lover Man" and "Centerpiece," the saxophonist adds his instinct for melodic development and own brand of scatting. Adding further to Gambarini’s style is a mellifluous but dynamic ensemble that includes Chuck Berghofer and John Clayton on bass, Tamir Handelman and Gerald Clayton on piano, Willie Jones III and Joe La Barbera on drums. CHORUS: Hey, I put some new shoes on, And suddenly everything is right, I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling, It so inviting, Oh, short on money, But long on time, Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine, And I'm running late, And I dont need an excuse, 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes. Woke up late one thursday, And I'm seeing stars as I'm rubbing my eyes, And I felt like there were two days missing, As I focused all the time, And I made my way to the kitchen, But I had to stop from the shock of what I found, A room full of all my friends dancing round and round, And I thought hello new shoes, Byebye them blues. CHORUS Take me wondering through these streets, Where bright lights and angels meet, Stone to stone they take me on, I'm walking to the break of dawn. Impressive at every musician's station, this ensemble produces music that's charming and elegant." -- VARIETY Pink Martini--the genre-bending, best-selling, supremely talented, and raucously fun twelve-piece ensemble that the New Yorker calls simply "beautiful," sophisticated," and "breathtaking"--returns with Hey Eugene! a twelve-track sonic journey anchored by deft songwriting and a no-holds-barred dose of cabaret showmanship. "We're kind of like musical archaeologists, bringing melodies and rhythms from different parts of the world together to create something that is modern," explains bandleader, artistic director, and founder Thomas Lauderdale. Delivered with sultry grace by lead singer China Forbes, Hey Eugene! shines throughout--from the golden-era Hollywood melody of "Everywhere" to the French cabaret of "Ojala." Other collaborations anchor the set as well: the pan-world "Dosvedanya, Mio Bombino" with its Latin-meets-Russian beat and globetrotting subject matter, plus the Forbes-Lauderdale-penned sexy sway of "City of Night." Peruvian percussionist Martin Zarzar debuts the romantically complex "Mar Desconocido" and bassist Phil Baker adds the quiet beauty of "Cante e Dance." The group also mines the past for hidden gems, including the Japanese-language track "Taya Tan" and their first-ever recording in Arabic, "Bukra wba'do." Meanwhile, clever lyricism leads to an empowering dose of pop perfection on the title track by Forbes (about a boy she met at a party who asked for her number and never called). Finally, jazz legend Jimmy Scott makes a stunning vocal guest appearance in a duet with Forbes on the closing song "Tea for Two." 1. Everywhere (Forbes / Lauderdale) 3:10 2. He’s my favorite singer of all time, so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I found his number in the telephone book. ‘Tea for Two’ is one of my favorite moments with the band ever.
