This is Ken Hirai’s 26th single and it was released on February 28, 2007. This single reached #5 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and it has sold 102,765 copies. The title track was used as the theme song for the drama Enka no Joou.

Kimi no Suki na Toko is quite different from past singles because it follows a pure, upbeat pop style. Upon further inspection, I have noticed that his more recent A-sides have been less R&B, especially his last single Elegy (which was amazing). Anyway, back to THIS song. I thought it was nice but nothing extremely special. The string and piano arrangement is gorgeous though.

I did like the B-side on this single a lot more. Utsukushii Hito is a calm piano ballad with excellent vocals. Even though Hirai doesn’t have that many piano based songs, they are all nicely done.

The 3rd track is an obnoxious remix of Bye My Melody. There’s just way too much stuff going on and the background voices really annoyed me. The only thing that the remix truly adds to the original is a fast dance beat.

This is Ken Hirai’s 25th single and it was released on January 17, 2007. This single reached #5 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and it has so far sold 118,302 copies. The title track was used as the theme song for the movie Ai no Ryuukeichi.

After a string of pop singles, Ken Hirai gets down and serious with Elegy, one of the best songs I have ever heard from him. The haunting melody is incredible and Hirai really showcases his vocal range. The beginning of the song opens quietly with piano and strings and gradually builds up to the chorus, where there is an explosion of percussion. I love the climactic ending because some great electric guitar riffs come in and the song abrubtly ends with a single, but really effective piano chord.

I love his B-sides and Kiss was no exception. The mix of gentle electric guitar and light R&B beats are fantastic and his vocals are very well done too. Even though I thought it wasn’t as good as hug from the Bye My Melody single, that’s not really saying much.

POP STAR is another personal favorite of mine because it was very upbeat and catchy and there is new version of it on this single. The winter lover version is significantly slower and features no synth at all. It actually adds some R&B beats so I thought it was great in the fact that it was extremely different from the original and it only kept the main melody.

This is Ken Hirai’s 24th single and it was released on June 14, 2006. This single reached #2 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and has sold a reported total of 81,898 copies.

Ignore the cover of this single, it doesn’t mean anything, really! XD
Bye My Melody is a damn good pop song with a nice beat and overall mood. I really liked this song because it is very upbeat and it followed the same style of his last single POP STAR, but without so much synth.

The B-side is hug, a relatively calmer acoustic guitar based song. The song is the perfect contrast to Bye My Melody and an excellent B-side as well.

Though this is obviously a "cheapo" release with very sparse information about the tracks and the artist, it is actually a pretty well compiled CD of some of Hardy's best early recordings.

Containing most her of biggest hits like "Ce Petite Coeur", "Tous les Garcons et les Filles", "La Maison ou Jái Grandi" and her only British top 20 hit-single "All Over the World", the CD gives a fine introduction to the most melodic and catchy side of Hardy.

A few harder to find tracks have also been included, among those English versions of some of her biggest hits in France.

For those who are not familar with Hardy's Vogue recordings or who just like intelligent 1960's pop, this CD is highly recommended.

If you want more of the same there is double CD called "The Vogue Years" covering her 1962-67 period brilliantly.
