Fortunately for 2000s-era Parrotheads (the moniker Jimmy Buffett fans go by), Florida's great laid-back one is as casual, groovy, and ready to deliver a fine musical time as he's ever been. After a patch of lukewarm releases, 2006's TAKE THE WEATHER WITH YOU is something of a return to form for Buffett, mining the sweet, tropical pop vibe for which he's well known. With its well-paced mix of covers and originals, TAKE THE WEATHER has few slow spots. The Southern soul-tinged "Bama Breeze" and the New Orleans groove of "Wheel Inside the Wheel" are particular highlights. Surprisingly, Buffett has some moments of poignant reflection, such as on the Hurricane Katrina reminder, "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On," but the wisdom mixes well with the sunshine, cold beer, and swim trunks vibe that pervades most of the disc.

Wow, what a selection of songs! I love all of the songs but I am especially happy to see that my father's favorite, "Y Volvere" was also included and also my dear mother's favorite, "Total" is also in this wonderful CD. Each of the 14 songs is a classic and I am so happy to have this CD which brings back so many fond memories of the concerts that my parents were able to attend with me. They are listening from heaven now and that is the perfect word to describe Vikki's voice and this CD

"Baby Come Over" is pure pop, with a well-honed hook that could have come straight off a Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera album. "Lately" contains some undeniable gospel overtones, as well as orchestral backing. At the same time, there's plenty of solid R&B to found here, but there's enough stylistic variety to keep things from ever getting too monochromatic.

Emilie Simon's ethereal, sing-song version of the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog," the second song on THE FLOWER BOOK (a compilation of songs from her 2006 debut album, VEGETAL, and from her soundtrack work for the movie MARCH OF THE PENGUINS, hints at the artist's complex, genre-bending sensibility.
