Air - The Virgin Suicides (OST) [2000]
Air's debut, Moon Safari, solidified the French duo's position among fickle electronica music fans and earned them critical accolades throughout the press. Yet one of their most important fans turned out to be Sofia Coppola (daughter of Francis Ford), who, inspired by their moody ambiance, asked them to write the soundtrack for her directorial debut. The Virgin Suicides--adapted from the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides about the Lisbon sisters and their quest for answers in a turbulent American adolescence--includes stars such as Kirsten Dunst and Kathleen Turner, and Air make a deeply impressionistic subliminal appearance as well. Gordon Tracks sings the lush and romantic "Playground Love"; the rest is a throbbing score of somber synths and thick washes of modest psychedelic touches that recall the tranquil buzz that comes from too much staring at the lava lamp. The album does tend to have more in common with prog rock than you usually expect from Air.The music is dark, melodic, harmonic, trippy, chill, 70's-esque and all around wonderful. In this cd the music is very dark and also it gets very very downtempo, it gives the chills in certain tracks, and you have to watch the movie so you can get the whole feeling of the music, full of mistery, sensuality and charm.

LoadMorphine - The Night [2000]
Before he died of a heart attack onstage, Mark Sandman specialized in leaving things unsaid; he was a master minimalist who created mood as much by what he left out as by what he put in. When he lets out a soft "whooh" at the end of the percolating mood piece "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer," it qualifies as catharsis by Morphine standards. That said, The Night is the Boston band's most painstakingly layered and ambitious album, with cello, organ and oud expanding on the trio's original sax-y swagger. "Rope on Fire" flirts with raga rock, "Take Me With You" swoons on a carpet of strings, and "Like a Mirror" plays a freak-show nocturne on Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones. Otherwise, two-string bassist Sandman, reedman Dana Colley and drummer Billy Conway do what they do best: They're an introspective funk band that kills with insinuation rather than booty-bumping bravado, letting the groove moan and the notes slide, slip and finally fade into silence. In these cryptic spaces, bebop and the blues are implied, and Sandman lets unfinished thoughts linger. "I want to be happy, but not all the time," he purrs in "A Good Woman Is Hard to Find," as good a way as any to describe the sensual anxiety that fills Morphine's Night-crawler finale.

LoadSeu Jorge - The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions [2005]
In the liner notes, David Bowie himself is quoted as saying, "Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with." The standout was Jorge, who not only had a role as an actor but also played a handful of Bowie songs solo with acoustic guitar, singing them in Portuguese it was a perfect combination of beautiful songs laid bare with a bit of exotic Brazilian spice to add fresh flavor. This is a great album for fans of David Bowie and Brazilian music. It's actually straightforward acoustic rock, which is a rarity in Brazilian music... But the main adaptation is in the lyrics, not in the style. This collection features the whole of that Bowie session, which means Jorge's six songs from the soundtrack, seven other Bowie tunes and one playful Jorge original entitled "Team Zissou."This album obviously gives the people what they want, and the good news is that the other versions are just as good as the ones that are on the original soundtrack.

LoadJazzamor - Travel [2006]
"Travel" is the third album of the german duo Jazzamor. From their first album on they had their own sound - and they kept working on it and developing it. The music of Jazzamor contains elements of different styles - Jazz, Lounge and Pop. "Jazz: Yes or No?" is the question on their homepage. For their debut album "Lazy sunday afternoon" the answer could maybe have been "yes". But for "Travel"? No, not really. "Travel" contains musical influences from different places and different times. There is a Blue harp in "Dont't think twice", there is "Easy Game" that seems to be influenced by the Disco sound of the 70s, there are african influences in "Hidden Treasure", there are Hip Hop versions of two titles. But finally all titles share the typical Jazzamor sound. A trip around the world in music. Each song is placed at a special setting in the world. Sometimes it’s the language, other times it’s an instrument, a rhythm or a story that brings us on a journey to a distant country or a city. Sometimes it’s just a wishful dream, other times tales of being there. Jazzamor is Easy Listening in the best meaning of this word: Catchy melodies, nice vocals and refreshing music.

Load
This album cuts through every element of what we constantly hear music today being termed as either Funktronic, Electronica, Acid Jazz, Future Jazz, Core-Lounge, Acid Lounge, Ambient Groove, etc. The best way to describe this band? Imagine Steely Dan, Curtis Mayfield, Shuggy Otis, and George Clinton, abducted and transplanted into the land of H.R. Puff'nStuff, and forced to perform concerts with transbiomorphic equipment only available in that warped fairy tale of a place. This is a great album. It is very mellow and atmospheric. This music is great for parties, lovemaking, babysitting, studying, driving and dining. After playing Fila's music in many of my DJ sets at parties and social gatherings the consistent reaction is a flutter of turning heads and the question, "Who is This"? Enough said...If you like musical artists who create their own sound aesthetics based on their own creativity, you will love Fila Brazillia, and you love Black Market Gardening.
