Rabbit Loves : CLUB 8
10:09 PM One of Sweden’s best-kept secrets, Club 8 emerged from a group of musicians who were all based in Ahus, a small, Absolut Vodka-making medieval town on the east-coast in southernmost Sweden. At first, Johan and Karolina played together in a band called Poprace, but they split-up after a couple of years. The former band members and lovers realized that they wanted to continue making music together. The result is Club 8. Their last album (Spring Came, Rain Fell) was a varied mix of styles from indie to electronica. With Strangely Beautiful, Club 8 creep closer to the listener with a warmer, more acoustic and even more sensitive sound. It's melancholic and irresistibly catchy pop songs are sure to please fans old and new. It's eleven songs to soundtrack the night. Club 8 - Strangely Beautiful 1. When Lights Go Out 2. What Shall We Do Next? 3. I Wasn't Much Of A Fight 4. Stay By My Side 5. Cold Hearts 6. Between Waking And Sleeping 7. This Is The Morning 8. Next Step You'll Take, The 9. Additional personnel: Christopher Sander (vocals, guitar); Tobias Einestad (trumpet); Andil Dahl (bongos). After a bit of arty experimentation, the fifth album from Swedish duo Club 8 finds them back doing what the do best: crafting breezy, Cardigans-styled dream-pop with a decidedly retro-continental flair. Borrowing the best parts of the Cocteau Twins ... the breathy and hypnotic female vocals ... and Stereolab ... the synthesized, suave and sexy sounds ... Club 8 creates a world all unto its own. It's a decidedly pretty place where you'd feel equally at home sliding out onto the dance floor as snuggling up in a beanbag chair with a special, sweet-smelling someone. Much of Strangely Beautiful sounds like what might happen if Abba crawled into bed with the Carpenters and they all took some clean X and strong morphine, and I say that as a positive thing. A touch of a spectral Astrud Gilberto sneaks into the footloose, pop-samba of The Next Step You'll Take, for which Karolina Komstedt's air-brushed voice becomes a small chorus of angels. The following The Beauty of the Way We're Living, will sound strangely familiar to those even casually aquatinted with the genre Club 8 is immersed in, but the hypnotic bit is all there own, and don't think you can call where this band will go next. Just when you think you've got them pegged, numbered and filed, they whip out Saturday Night Engine, which is the best Flaming Lips song the Flaming Lips never did. This is definitely a case where the album title says it all. ........................ club 8 - Nouvelle 1. Blue Skies 2. Don't Be Gone 3. Breakdown 4. She Never Calls Me 5. Loveaffair 6. They made simple bedroom recordings of their three first songs and sent them to their ten favorite labels. The response was just as immediate as it was good with half of the labels wanting to release the band. Club 8 chose the Spanish label Siesta where they released their debut single 'Me Too' later the same year and the debut album Nouvelle the year after. After four years, Club 8 is finally back with their long awaited sixth album. The waiting’s been so long we can almost, but just almost, talk about a comeback album. However, waiting’s not always a bad thing. Not only has songwriter Johan Angergๅrd released three albums with The Legends and one with Acid House Kings in the time in between - Club 8 has evolved in to one of the most personal and emotional bands around today. The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Dreaming is everything we’d ever hoped it would be - it’s pop music at it’s most profound, balancing perfectly between sunshine and melancholia. Twelve songs that'll make you sing along about death while dreaming of summer days. A glorious return to say the least. 01. jesus, walk with me 02. whatever you want 03. football kids 04. hopes and dreams 05. everything goes 06. heaven 07. when I come around 08. leave the north 09. in the morning 10. sometimes 11. where birds don’t fly 12. the boy who couldn’t stop dreaming Sourc 1 / Source 2 |
